What is my vintage Seiko worth?

Old Seiko watch values by model, serial number and condition, taken from sold listings we review by hand. Every range shows its sample size and the date we sampled it.

Quick answer

It depends on the reference and its condition more than on its age. The ranges on this page come only from sold listings we sample by hand, and the first sample is due in November 2026. Until then, identify your watch with the serial decoder and place its condition in one of the four grades below.

Prices by model

Prices appear after we sample sold listings by hand. First sample due November 2026.

Vintage Seiko value by serial number

The serial tells you when a watch was made, but Seiko made everyday watches and collectible ones at the same time, so the year alone doesn’t set a price. Date the watch with the serial decoder, read the reference from the case back, then find that reference in the table above. The by-serial page walks through it step by step.

Vintage Seiko value by model number

The case back number is the model. We price each reference on its own rather than by nickname, because one nickname often covers several references. A “Turtle”, for example, can be a 6309-7040 or a 6309-7049.

How condition changes the price

We sort every sold watch into one of four grades and give each grade its own range, so a project watch never gets averaged in with a collector’s example.

  • A, collector grade: original and serviced, with the box, papers or original bracelet.
  • B: original and serviced, without those extras.
  • C: running but unserviced, or with minor flaws.
  • D: project watches, or suspected frankens.

Parts, modified watches, obvious frankens and listings too vague to grade are left out of the sample entirely. The methodology page has the full rules.

Are old Seiko watches worth anything?

Most are worth something as working watches. How much depends on the reference and the condition far more than on the age. Some references have a strong following among collectors: the early divers, the automatic chronographs, King Seiko, and watches with a story, like the 6139 chronograph that astronaut William Pogue wore on Skylab 4. The table above will show what each one actually sells for once it’s sampled.

Which old Seikos are worth selling, and which aren’t worth repairing

We’ll name them here once our first sampling is in. Repairing makes sense when the serviced watch would sell, after fees, for more than the unserviced watch plus the cost of the repair; we’ll show both numbers side by side.

How to get an appraisal

For insurance, ask your insurer what it needs; many ask for a written appraisal from an independent appraiser or jeweler. For a selling price, an appraisal helps less than sold listings for the same reference in the same condition, which is what the ranges on this site are built from.

Where to sell a vintage Seiko

The main options are eBay, Chrono24 and forums such as r/Watchexchange. eBay and Chrono24 charge sellers a fee on each sale; on r/Watchexchange the buyer and seller deal directly, and the payment service may charge a fee. Compare what you’d receive after fees rather than the sale price. We’ll add a fee comparison here.

FAQ

How much is my Seiko worth?

Find the reference on the case back, such as 6309-7040, then decide which of our four condition grades fits the watch. The sold range for that reference and grade is the best guide. Ranges appear on this page after our first sampling in November 2026.

Does the serial number affect the value?

We don't price serial numbers on their own. The serial matters for what it tells you: the date, and sometimes which version of a reference you have.

Do the box and papers add value?

They can. We put watches with their box, papers or original bracelet in grade A, separately from the rest, so each reference's ranges will show the difference once it's sampled.
